'Women arrive in their car with their three children and two suitcases. We can house and protect them for five days, but then their only option is to go back to the people who hurt them.'

In December 2018, 25 women attended a leadership gathering on Necker Island through Business Chicks where, during one session with Alyssa Milano about the #MeToo movement, we were joined by local survivors of domestic violence from the British Virgin Islands. We heard from some incredibly brave women who have survived harrowing circumstances of domestic violence.

We asked what their greatest need was and they shared that they desperately needed to build a refuge; a safe place where women could come to receive shelter, counselling, food and protection. In 2017 Hurricane Irma destroyed so much of these islands and had a devastating impact.

Since then, we've been working with the team at the Family Support Network BVI to draw up plans for the refuge, and find suppliers to make this dream a reality. A private donor has already pledged $100K so each of us have committed to raising the $285,000 to this well-deserved cause.
